The area Kaminia (kilns), located 32 km from Argostoli, took its name from roof tile artisanship that flourished on the south hillside village of Ratzakli. The development of roof tile making in this area has been sustained by an ample amount of argil that the locals call “glina” which is found on the slopes of the coast. The exact period of their construction is not known, but in the mid-19th century, there was a sustainable economy of roof tile production and trade in southern Kefalonia.
